Description

Orthodox icon | Mother of God “Joy of All Oppressed” | 24726.

This sacred icon shows the Mother of God in her full form, without the child Jesus by her side. Angels guide and comfort her as she stands before a group of individuals struggling with various illnesses and sorrows. People celebrate the feast day for this icon on October 24th, reminding them of the hope and comfort the Mother of God offers to those facing hardships.

The late 17th century marks the beginning of this icon’s recognition. The sister of Patriarch Joachim of Moscow struggled with a severe illness for a long time.

However, one fateful day during her prayers, she experienced a divine message. A voice spoke to her, addressing her by name, Evfimija, and inquired as to why she had not sought refuge in the One who possesses the power to heal all.

The voice mentioned an image named “The Joy of All Sorrowful” in the Church of the Transfiguration where Evfimija’s son served as a priest. The voice instructed Evfimija to request the image from the priest and conduct a special prayer service with water.

By performing this ritual, it would heal her. Evfimija placed her trust in the All Saints Mother, followed the instructions, and found healing.

The icon has an inscription confirming its divine origin. It’s a copy of the original, tied to a significant event on July 23, 1888. Back then, it was in the church of the Imperial Glass Manufactory in St. Petersburg.

A bomb exploded in the church, sending dimes flying into the icon. Yet, everyone inside was unscathed, shielded by the Mother of God.

This icon symbolizes the Mother of God’s healing and compassion. It’s a reminder of divine aid during tough times, fostering hope and faith in believers.
