Description
Orthodox icon | Mother of God “the Surety of Sinners” | 24782.
The Virgin Mary is seen cradling the infant Christ on her left arm. Christ, using both His hands, clasps the right hand of His mother offered to Him. Both figures are adorned with crowns.
Furthermore, four lines of inscription surround them, reading: “I stand as the succor of the sinners, entrusted in the name of my son to shoulder the sins of the fallen and feeble; as they express contrite remorse for their frailties, my intercession shall bestow upon them eternal joy.”
The depiction emphasizes Mary’s role as the intercessor for humankind’s sins, showing the intimate connection between mother and child.
This icon also features an intricate oklad embellished with embroidered glass beads and gemstones, one of which has been restored. An old letter reinforces the backing of the icon.
The oklad, a decorative metal cover common in Russian icons, highlights the sacred image’s reverence. It features glass beads and gemstones, adding to its preciousness and spiritual importance.
The feast day for this icon is celebrated on May 29. It includes liturgical commemorations and special prayers, reflecting the spiritual significance of Mary and Christ in Christian belief.
