Description
Orthodox icon | Patron Saints of Marriage.
The icon portrays the Patron Saints of Conjugal Fidelity: Saint Martyrs Samonas and Gurias of Edessa and Habib, with the blessing Christ above them.
Saint Samonas and Gurias were close friends. Gurias lived as an ascetic and priest in Edessa, which is known as Sanliurfa today. Both of them faced martyrdom during the reigns of emperors Galerius and Maximianus. It is believed that the deacon Habib buried the two saints. Together, they were venerated on a hill located north of Edessa and are regarded as the patron saints of marital fidelity.
Their feast day is celebrated on November 15th.
The icon features a poliment gilded background with punched and engraved painted ornaments. The robes are adorned with exquisite gold painting.
It is a highly appealing and decorative icon.
